What do you believe is the purpose of a college education?
I believe that the purpose of a college education is to further your education once you graduate high school. It is a way to broaden your horizons from many subjects to things that you need in your field of major to what you may need in the generals of life. I also think that the purpose of college education is to challenge you. There was a time when I have always wanted to be enrolled in college but I never understood why students stressed the work so much. Now that I am currently enrolled, especially as a freshman, I see that most teachers give you work to challenge you and to see how far they can push you within education.
What does it mean to be educated?
To be educated means to have knowledge of things that you want to have knowledge about. Many people who have not been in college can know more things that a college student will never know about. It maybe because they watch the news everyday or maybe they take walks in a park everyday to analyze everyday living of people and the things that surrounds them. But they may not know much about Intro to Statistics or Principle of Sociology like how a college student would know it. On the other hand, a college student may not know much about the stocking system in the world or politics that are happening in everyday life. It all depends on what you want to have knowledge about and I think that is what it means to educated.
What experiences have you had with education that led you to this belief?
I think that my whole high school and so far my college experience is what led me to this belief. Personally, I am good at some things such as Writing and a little bit of Math, but I have come to realize that the skills that I have in those classes does not have nothing to do with me furthering myself in life. I have learn to talk to people and becoming more open as well as learning how to grow. This does not have much to do with education, but that is what I have learned to be educated. You have to have knowledge in things that are more academically as well as things that you can learn to help you mature in life.
